There are many reasons why polyurethane is used as an alternative concrete repair method, but here are the most common reasons:

Smaller holes: With polyurethane foam, we can drill smaller holes (5/8″) into the concrete than other methods. Mudjacking requires larger holes (2-3″).

Lightweight material: Since polyurethane foam is lightweight compared to the mudjacking slurry, it doesn’t create pressure to underlying soils. The slurry used for mudjacking is heavy, causing resettlement over time.

Fewer holes: Polyurethane foam requires fewer holes which makes your concrete surface look cleaner afterward compared to traditional mudjacking.

Permanent repair: Polyjacking is a long-lasting repair method, not a temporary fix. It won’t lose density or erode like mudjacking. It cures within minutes, allowing you to use the concrete surface shortly after installation.

Polyjacking can be applied to sunken or settling concrete that needs to be realigned to its original position. The most common causes of settling concrete are due to the following soil-related issues:

When you’re contemplating the question of how long your polyurethane concrete leveling repair will last, it’s helpful to back up and look at the big picture. Because you do have other concrete repair options:

• You can tear your concrete out, getting rid of it completely. But that’s not a great option in most cases, because – generally speaking – there’s a reason that concrete was poured in the first place. It has a purpose (e.g., preserving a safe, clear passage for you up to your driveway).

• You can tear it all out and repour it. But, in addition to the high costs of re-pouring, the process of tearing it out and re-pouring further disturbs your soil. If your soil was already failing at depth, that could mean that you’ll only end up facing the same problems a little further down the road. And nobody is going to give you a warranty on new concrete.

• You can use mudjacking. Mudjacking lifts the concrete by using hydraulic pressure to pump a mixture of sand, water, and Portland cement pumped through 1-⅝” holes in the concrete. It cures in one to two days. The material is considered structural fill and weighs an average of 100 to 110 pounds per cubic foot.

• You can use polyurethane injections. Our process lifts the concrete by using a specialized gun to inject a two-part polyurethane mixture into ⅝” holes in the concrete. The mixture turns solid once underground and cures in less than 15 minutes. Polyurethane weighs only about two pounds per cubic foot.

Poly foam leveling is the newest and most efficient concrete repair technique available today. We use lightweight polyurethane foam to fill voids under concrete slabs and lift them back to their original level. It is useful for foundation repair and soil stabilization, as well as filling voids under swimming pool decks, patios, walkways, sidewalks etc.

Incorrect grading, poor drainage, excessive rain, and many other factors can contribute to soil settling or washing away under your slab. Voids may appear under the slab, contributing to slab settling and/or cracking. Home and business owners should note such voids even if they are small as they can enlarge over time, causing damage to the concrete slab. Filling the void can repair the issue and keep the area from settling further. If the slab is already damaged it can be lifted back to its original position.

Concrete slabs settle due to voids or unstable soil. By pumping polyurethane foam through the concrete, you essentially push the concrete slab back up from below. First, small holes are drilled through the area to be filled, then the foam is injected under the slab, filling the void and lifting the slab back to a level position. After the injection, the holes are patched with concrete and the area can be used immediately – no waiting for drying or curing.

Using polyurethane foam is very cost effective, environmentally friendly, and causes very little downtime. Most jobs take only a few hours and can be walked on immediately. The costs involved are often much less than demolishing and replacing concrete.

• Powerful Insulator: Thousands of fasteners and welds intersecting with hundreds of beams and metal panels conduct heat into and out of a metal building, causing most other insulations to be less effective. Spray foam not only insulates the structure well but because of its expansive nature, spray foam tightly seals all the nooks and crannies that otherwise would have been left exposed, and eliminates thermal bridging concerns.

• Incredible Energy Savings! Research performed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in 1996 concluded that similar R-values of closed-cell spray polyurethane foam installed between metal studs in wall assemblies were 20% to 30% more energy efficient than fiberglass batts installed in similarly constructed wall assemblies. - This test did not even include factors such as air infiltration, but only heat transfer!

• Air-Tight Seal: Spray foam expanded through the gaps of a metal building; eliminating the chance of air & moisture intrusion. Air sealing tops the list of the most cost effective ways to save energy. Gaps, cracks, and penetrations are where air leaks occur and are often the culprit of high energy bills and overall discomfort. Spray foam insulation fills in those crevices and voids, completely air-sealing around the through penetrations such as vents, pipes, stacks, structural supports, drains, and the like.

• Moisture Barrier: With metal buildings, it can prove challenging and costly to identify and locate water leaks due to the irregular surfaces, angular corners and junctions. Flashings tend to move, increasing the potential for water leaks that may be hard to detect and to stop. Closed-cell spray foam conforms to the irregular surfaces, corners and junctions, forming a fully adhered, seamless waterproofing membrane that helps eliminate leaks.

• Deters Mold: Spray foam is composed of an inert polymer that won't allow growth of mold or bacteria. This promotes better indoor air quality and a safer environment to work in.

• Structural Strength: A topic of concern for many metal building owners is not having the ability to remove damaged wall panels after spray foam has been applied. Closed-cell spray foam has a high compressive strength. As a result, it will not only increase the structural integrity and rigidity of metal buildings, but protect the building, too. - In terms of cost, the replacement of wall panels on a metal building can cost $10 to $13 per square foot. In contrast, a closed-cell spray foam application only ranges from $3 to $5 per square foot; Less than half the cost.

• Eco-Friendly: Spray foam is considered "green" because it reduces energy consumption, protects against mold and is designed to last a very long time, producing fewer consumed materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
